2021 Kalleske Greenock Shiraz
Kalleske’s Greenock Shiraz is a single vineyard wine produced from low yielding vines on the Kalleske estate at Greenock, in the North-Western Barossa Valley. Cuttings for these vines originate from a vineyard planted on the property in the late 1800’s. From what is widely acclaimed by winemakers to be a textbook perfect vintage in the Barossa, 2021 produced reds with strong colour, outstanding flavour intensity and excellent structures. Maturation took place in a combination of American and French oak hogsheads (30% new) for a period of 14 months. Certified organic and biodynamic.
From a textbook perfect vintage this is quite possibly Kalleske’s best Greenock Shiraz yet.
Magnificent colour! Super saturated inky black core with an equally deep black dark red hue. Wafting through the olfactory senses are lavish dark plum, blackberry and liquorice aromatics which meld into heady vanillin oak, mocha and spice notes. Thick, super rich and voluptuous, decadent dark plum, liquorice and blackberry flavours show explosive force across the large scaled palate. Complimenting the lush fruit profile are notions of vanillin oak, mocha, scorched earth and spice. Superb power and depth, a sturdy framework of tannins for the most part concealed by the wines sheer level of opulence. Quite possibly Kalleske’s best Greenock yet, it has an exceptionally long pedal to the metal finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
