2021 Muto Negroamaro
Muto Wine is operated by the Smit family, based in Tallarook, Victoria. They utilise climate-appropriate, alternative varieties to produce wines that are characterised by their integrity, thoughtful production, and pure drinkability.
100% Negroamaro grown on the slopes of the Mt Camel range, near Colbinabbin in Heathcote. Fermented 50% whole-bunch for bright fruit and spice with the remainder destemmed for structure and weight. Stomped by foot and hand plunged once a day before gentle basket pressing. Matured in 500L seasoned puncheons for 10 months with one rack leaving behind the gross lees.
Dark red in colour with black toned edges and a vibrant red hue. Fragrant violet, red plum and liquorice scents sail out of the glass and are complemented by clove, earth and spicy fresh herb notes. The light, energetic palate is layered with red cherry, red currant and red liquorice fruits which are underpinned by crunchy acidity. Infusions of fresh herbs and delicate earth are also evident. Refined tannin structure with a bright, fresh red fruited finish.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
