2021 Nekeas Cepa Por Cepa Garnacha
Nekeas was established by a number of generational growers in the late 1980’s. Hit by hard times, low grape prices and high labour costs they were forced to pull up most of most of their vines during the 1960’s. However, with winemaking still flowing through their veins a group of landholders made the decision to pool some of their resources, embarking on a project to plant new vineyards and build a modern production facility.
This Garnacha is sourced from the younger vineyards planted with cuttings from pre-phylloxeric vines. Clusters are fully destemmed and lightly crushed. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks and the wine is then racked to neutral French oak barriques where its matured for 3 months.
A super delicious Spanish Garnacha awash with irresistible red fruits.
Deep dark red colour with black tinged edges and a bright red to dark red hue. Delightfully fragrant the nose offers up scents of fresh red raspberry and red liquorice gently infused with a mix of clove, scorched earth and peppered meats. Rich and succulent yet light and fresh in its feel, the delicious palate is awash with juicy red raspberry, red liquorice and cherry fruits. Excellent concentration and power with scorched earth, Mediterranean herbs and peppered meat characters lying underneath. Bright acidity and slightly chalky tannins are nonetheless nicely integrated. Showing plenty of moreish appeal it finishes with a long blackpepper infused red fruited aftertaste.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
