Coming Soon - 2021 Nicks Secret AC Blewitt Springs Syrah
From a renown McLaren Vale winery, this is one of their flagship cuvees which is only released in top years. Sitting at an altitude of 200 metres the Blewitt Springs sub region normally ripens 1-2 weeks later than most other areas in McLaren Vale producing refined wines that have a silken feel and gorgeous layers of rich blue to black fruit.
A glorious Blewitt Springs Syrah.
Dense pitch black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Potent ripe blackberry, dark plum and liquorice aromas engulf the nostrils with hints of dark chocolate, vanillin cedar, earth and peppered fennel ensuing. Rich, plush and concentrated yet possessing ample underlying freshness, the full bodied palate is awash with succulent blackberry and liquorice fruits. Lurking beneath are dark plum, blueberry, vanillin cedar, traces of dark chocolate, earth and peppered fennel characters. Boasting superb power and velvet smooth tannins it finishes long and lush carrying with it a refined opulence.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14%

Fine syrah, nudging the firmament while shifting the regional paradigm to a northern Rhone-inspired freshness. Traditional, heftier styles remain, but I'd much rather drink this. Full-weighted, yet you'd hardly know it such is the freshness and pithy, sandy tannic tension, like a razor's edge nicking the upper lip. Taut and crunchy with verticality, rather than the horizontal breadth that marks most regional shiraz. Bloodstone, damson plum, boysenberry, bergamot, white pepper and cardamon. Really very good.

A lick of dried lavender and rosemary signals a little whole-bunch work that is well integrated into the core of the wine at this point. Then, it’s all about polished blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and plums. The heart of the wine is a sensory delight, with its fleshy, savory core sweetened by the delicate nuances of vanilla, milk chocolate, and cedar from the oak. Like the whole bunch character on the nose, the oak has seamlessly integrated into the fruit, adding an irresistible savoury edge to the palate. That bittersweet tannic bite right at the end makes this Syrah a hell of a wine. Drink 2024-2038.

This is engaging with stunning complexity, showing blackberry, raspberry, cured meat, rich floral and almond notes on the nose, followed by a sensually expressed palate offering fleshy texture backed by finely infused tannins. Seamless with vibrancy as well as sturdy structure, with a sustained, captivating finish. At its best: now to 2036.
