2021 Nicks Secret Barossa Valley YP Single Vineyard Old Vine Grenache
Dark red heart with black toned edges and a red hue. Dark raspberry, red liquorice and red to dark cherry aromas show good intensity followed by some dried herb, earth and peppered meat notes. Rich, succulent and concentrated, the mid weighted palate is awash with dark raspberry, red liquorice and dark cherry fruits. Infusions of dried herbs, subtle scorched earth and pepper also chime in. Luscious in its texture it has silky smooth tannins and possesses excellent power as well as depth to finish long and moreish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

This goes deep. Very deep. A Grenache grown on Survivor Vines (70 years+) in the Vine Vale sands, it offers plenty to consider. Want a Grenache with personality? Go here.
The final blend consists of 36% whole bunches and those savoury characters rise up late. Early on it's all mulberries, cranberries, sour cherries and blueberry fruits that are soft and luscious. There is a flash of grape bubblegum too. Over a couple of days of tasting that sour cherry really stakes its claim. Fine spices weave and swerve before straightening with a cheeky cameo of soy and oyster sauce. The more air it breathes the more the earthiness shines and is highlighted by a dusty road trait.**** wines are always considered and interesting - this is a cracker once more. Drink to five years+

Grenache from a 1920s-planted survivor vine vineyard on the edge of Tanunda; 36% whole bunches and aged in French oak (10% new) for 14 months. Aromas of raspberry, redcurrant and dried cranberries with an understory of ginger spice, earth, roasting meats, dried citrus rind and light notes of citrus blossom, softly spoken oak and cola. Savoury and true with a nice flow of meaty red fruit and exotic spice with some green olive and tobacco suggestions, bright acidity and the gentle tug of fine sandy tannin on the persistent finish. Drink by 2030.
