2021 Nicks Secret BSD Reserve Shiraz
From arguably Langhorne Creek’s most famous estate that has a history dating back to the 1860’s, this winery was also awarded James Halliday’s Wine Companion ‘2024 winery of the year’. Fruit was sourced from a combination of vineyards planted in 1952, 1962 and 1970 with maturation taking place in French and American oak for a period of 18 months.
A rich, fleshy Langhorne Creek Shiraz that delivers an abundance of flavour at a miserly price.
Dense midnight black core with a dark red black tinged hue. Lifted dark plum and liquorice aromas are trailed by some spicy vanillin cedar, blackberry and peppered earth notes. Rich, juicy dark plum, blackberry and liquorice fruits carry a plush feel over a back drop of vanillin oak, scorched earth, blueberry and pepper. Refined with medium to full body weight it possesses velvety tannins and sufficient freshness. Finishes long, succulently fruited and well fleshed.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews.....
An absolute cracker. Deep blood red in colour, this is ripe and alluring. The nose gives up aromas of chocolate, plums, cherries, licorice, soy, beef stock and miso. There really is so much packed in here and yet, everything remains in balance. The wine is seamless with good intensity and silky tannins. Very good length here too, which persists impressively. Will drink well for the next ten to fifteen years and anyone with a case in the cellar in a decade will think themselves to be a most astute wine buyer. Drink 2024-2039.
