2021 Schrader Cellars Double Diamond Cabernet Sauvignon

Super star winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown is responsible for making the Schrader cellars wines, many of which regularly flirt with the magical 3 digit score from wine critics. Double Diamond is the estate’s entry level offering which showcase’s the wineries skyscraper level of quality to a broader audience. Coming off the success of the 2019 vintage which was awarded Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year, the 2021 could quite possibly outshine it.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon with maturation taking place in French oak (54% new) for a period of 19 months. Magnificent super saturated inky black in colour with an equally deep black dark red hue. Heady scents of ripe blackcurrant, liquorice, dark chocolate and vanillin oak waft from the glass trailed by some earth and spice notes. Super rich, intense and densely textured yet impeccably structured, every corner of the mouth is completely engulfed with opulent blackcurrant and liquorice fruit. Vanillin cedar, subtle dark chocolate, earth and spice nuances linger through the back half. Outstanding power with a robust yet balanced tannin framework lending grip. Concludes long and sumptuous but firm. A rich, palate staining Napa Cabernet.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is cut from the same cloth, with plenty of richness and depth, yet it stays slightly more focused and tight on the palate, with medium to full-bodied richness as well as beautiful darker currant, cassis, darker chocolate, graphite, and hints of flowers. It's concentrated and has beautiful mid-palate density, ripe yet building tannins, and a great finish. It's another undeniably delicious, hard-to-resist Cabernet Sauvignon from the talents of winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. Give bottles a decant if drinking any time soon and enjoy over the coming 10-12+ years. Drink 2023-2035.
