2021 Sevenhill Inigo Shiraz
The first winery in the Clare Valley, Sevenhill Cellars was established by Jesuits in 1851 to produce sacramental wine.
Today they produce a range of table wines from select parcels of premium fruit as well as estate wines from the unique vineyard sites on the property. Sourced from 6 different blocks on the Sevenhill Property with the oldest block planted in 1910. The fruit is fermented in open fermenters and pressed to French hogshead barrels (20% being new barrels) for maturation.
Impenetrable black as night core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced liquorice and blackberry aromas mix with toasty vanillin oak, scorched earth and peppered dried herb notes. Medium bodied, fleshy dark plum and liquorice fruits are underpinned by bright acidity and firmish tannins which lend a chalky feel. Scorched earth and blackpepper characters tail off onto a dry and somewhat edgy finish.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
A succulent mix of dark berries, some aniseed, dark chocolate and coffee, a slight floral top note. It’s medium to full-bodied, juicy dark fruits, maybe some Turkish apricot, a smooth web of tannin, pleasing balance, with a finish of good length. Easy to get along with. Drink 2023 - 2027+.
