2021 Torbreck The Gask Shiraz

The Gask is sourced from the cooler climes of Eden Valley and retains a tighter structure without sacrificing any of Torbreck’s renown fruit intensity and power. Maturation took place in second fill French oak barriques for a period of 18 months.
Impenetrable inky black heart with an equally deep dark red black hue. Wafting through the olfactory senses are seductive aromas of dark plum, liquorice and ripe black cherries which are trailed by some gently smoked vanillin cedar, earth and peppered dried meat notes. Rich dark plum, liquorice and black cherry fruits engulf the mouth with great opulence. Notions of blueberry, toasty vanillin cedar, fennel, earth and spicy pepper flow onto the back half of the palate. Concentrated and powerful, a sturdy tannin framework imparts a ripe chewy feel. That underlying muscle is carried through to what is an otherwise a very long, deeply fruited and lavish conclusion.

The 2021 The Gask is 100% Shiraz from the Eden Valley. The wine itself is brooding and black, with blue fruits and a muscularity in the mouth. It has length of flavor and line, and the tannins that infuse the fruit are intense and savory. There are notes of black tea, resin, chewing tobacco, black pepper, blackberry and cassis. This is a ripping wine. It is elegant and full-bodied at once—svelte, huge, awesome. Drink 2023-2043.
