2021 Wilson Polish Hill River Riesling
Wilson’s Polish Hill River Riesling is sourced from their oldest vineyards planted over 40 years ago. Its miniscule yields typically produce a wine rich in citrus fruits within a steely structure, tight with lots of minerality. These old vines on very wide rows produce exceptional fruit with complex flavours and aromatics. Beneath the iron stained clay lies a bed of decomposing slate and scattered quartz. It’s also not unusual to find remnant pottery and agricultural implements from the Polish Settlers who once lived and farmed the area now planted to this small vineyard. 2021 was a cool but relatively dry vintage resulting in near perfect grape growing conditions.
A magnificent Riesling from a great vintage.
Brilliant water like colour with greenish tinged edges. Pronounced lime juice, citrus and orange rind scents fill the nostrils with some distinct talc, wet steel and chalky mineral characters ensuing. Explosive lime, citrus and green apple fruits burst across the palate with superb intensity, overlaying a back drop of orange rind, chalky mineral and wet steel characters. Outstanding power with crunchy acidity providing great structure and focus to the exceptionally long and concentrated finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 12.5%
