2022 Castellari Bergaglio Fornaci Gavi
Piedmont is best known for its red wines, but Gavi, located in southern Piedmont and bordering Liguria, is home to white wines that have long been favoured by the neighbouring port of Genoa to accompany the region’s seafood. Founded in 1890, Castellari Bergaglio is a family-run winery that Gambero Rosso hails as “one of the appellation’s principal reference points.”
Brilliant very pale straw colour with a faint greenish tinge to the outskirts and a watery hue. Lime, pear and green apple scents sail out of the glass followed by fresh herb and wet slate notes. Snappy green apple and lime fruits have an electric feel across the palate with infusions of fresh herbs and flinty mineral elements lingering underneath. Crisp saline laced acidity finishing dry and zippy.
Drink over the next year.
