2022 CRFT The Lansdowne Vineyard Chardonnay

Wild fermented this Chardonnay has a brilliant pale straw colour with distinct highlights of green around the outskirts and a watery hue. Nosing presents aromas of nectarine, citrus, dried honey and biscuity oak followed by hints of nougat and gun flint. Fleshy white peach and nectarine fruits meld into traces of dried honey, biscuity nougat, citrus and infusions of gun flint. Finishes dry with lively acidity and an elegant aftertaste that has a brisk feel to it.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

A mellifluous chardonnay of flavour, flow and laissez-faire feel belied by precise freshness and finish. Make no mistake, the craftsmanship here is of a quality that promotes the honeydew melon, pear drop and stone fruit allusions, rather than harnessing them into a style or type. I very much appreciate that. It makes for an easy-drinking wine that is far from vapid or anodyne. Drink by 2030.
