The 2022 Curly Flat Chardonnay experienced a cool growing season, continuing the trend from 2020 and 2021. The season began with the second coldest spring on record and low heat accumulation in October and November, but avoided serious frosts due to higher rainfall. Summer remained cool except for a warmer January, and a dry February concentrated the fruit. Cooler autumn allowed for optimal ripeness at harvest, resulting in a wine with deep fragrance, broad flavor, and fine mineral length.
At the winery, the Chardonnay was picked in the cool morning, whole bunch pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in various barrel sizes. The wine underwent 100% malolactic fermentation, 28% new oak treatment, and minimal filtration. It is ready to drink now and has a cellaring potential of over 10 years.

Other Reviews....
An excellent, medium-bodied expression from a cool La Niña vintage, perfect for whites. Fruit, flare and compression wrapped in a classy interplay of cantaloupe, pralines, hazelnuts and Mirabelle plums. The texture is immaculate, with nothing hard or too soft. Just generous, cool-climate tension promoting exceptional length. Very good. Drinkable now, but best from 2026. Screw cap.

This is quite slender, more slender than I usually associate with Curtly Flat, though it builds flesh and flavour as it breathes and it will no doubt continue to do so as it matures. It tastes of cedar and nectarine, grapefruit and green apple, custard powder and woodsmoke, with gentle herb-like notes littered throughout. The wine’s grapefruit notes really power on through the finish, which is a good sign, and everything feels well balanced and knitted. Tuck it away awhile and it’ll sing. Drink 2025 - 2032+
