2022 Dexter Chardonnay
Matured in French oak puncheons (20% new) for a period of 9 months. Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish toned edges and a watery hue. Delightful peach, nectarine and dried honey scents show plenty of intensity out of the glass with notions of biscuity oak, nougat, hints of crème brulee and gun flint lending further interest. Combining elegance and freshness the mid weighted palate features white peach and nectarine fruits over biscuity oak, dried honey, nougat and infusions of gun flint. Concludes refined and vibrant with a subtle creamy feel.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 13%

I went and visited Todd Dexter’s old ski buddy pal Chompers (what a great nickname!) today in Patonga, where I call home. Chompers likes bigger reds but he got the left over 2022 Pinot Noir from me and the life cycle of this ancient friendship continues. Chompers continues his love of arranging our street’s bins, fueled by Mornington’s finest. Anyway, here’s the chardy.
It’s a tightly wound chardonnay with stacks of greener spectrum stone fruit characters, not green green but peaches and nectarines when they’re still really firm. A touch of grapefruit in the mix, a wash of crushed rock minerals, faint nougat and cashew with some of that wet fern character in there too, if ya get my drift. It’s flavoursome but racy, skittish even, skids across the palate with ultra-refreshing vibes and trails away all minerally and long. It’s really good. Drink : 2023 - 2030+
