2022 Domaine Billaud-Simon Valmur Chablis Grand Cru
Other Reviews....
Once again moderate wood is present on the cool if ripe and vaguely exotic aromas that feature notes of pear liqueur, green fruit, spice and seashore hints. There is almost painful intensity to the larger-scaled and overtly powerful flavors that terminate in a chalky, youthfully austere and compact finale that also flirts with rusticity. This is impressive and very much a classic Valmur. Drink through 2032+.

Valmur receives the same as Bougros for elevage, so no oak thus far.. Glowing fresh pale yellow. An interesting zesty citrus rind nose, unexpected for me or this vineyard. A rich texture on the palate shows the grand cru, ripe citrus notes, if a little heavy in the flesh. Drink from 2028-2034.

Creamy but with crisp acidity and a long, fresh finish. Lots to like. Still has plenty of warmth. Purchased grapes from the north-facing side of Valmur. Billaud-Simon produces its Valmur and Blanchot with unusually shaped vats designed to enhance the effect of maturation on fine lees. Drink 2025-2031.
