2022 Domaine Charles Audoin Fixin Le Rozier
Domaine Charles Audoin was formed in 1972 by Charles and his oenologist wife Marie-Francoise, starting with three hectares in Marsannay. Their holding has now grown to around 14 hectares that captures some of the best parcels in Marsannay. Their son Cyril joined his father in 2000, and is now in charge of both vineyard and winemaking activities for the Domaine. Cyril is increasingly focused on vineyard health, to deliver wines with pure varietal expression and a sense of place. They are among the most serious wines from the area, and while juicy and approachable young, have the capacity to age gracefully for many years.
Red to dark red core with black shaded edges and a bright red hue. Fragrant red to dark cherry and winter strawberry aromas intermix with violet, vanillin cedar, fresh herb, delicate forest floor and spice notes. Rich, intense and powerful, a cascading wave of delicious dark cherry, strawberry and red liquorice fruits decorate the palate with a supple textural feel. Subtle anise, vanillin cedar, infusions of fresh herbs, light earth and spice ensue. Polished tannins finishing beautifully fleshed, long and moreish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 13%

Enormous ripeness and structure, this remains miraculously light on its feet! Seems to vibrate on the palate, thanks to the vitality. Very stony finish.

Once again the nose of the essence of red cherry is super-fresh and markedly more floral in character. While the middleweight flavors are not as concentrated, they're even more mineral-driven and beautifully precise before culminating in a linear, youthfully austere and dusty finale. Audoin noted that 2022 may be the best vintage he has ever made for the Rozier, and he could well be right. Drink through 2032+.
