2022 Domaine Charles Audoin Pommard en Mareau
Domaine Charles Audoin was formed in 1972 by Charles and his oenologist wife Marie-Francoise, starting with three hectares in Marsannay. Their holding has now grown to around 14 hectares that captures some of the best parcels in Marsannay. Their son Cyril joined his father in 2000, and is now in charge of both vineyard and winemaking activities for the Domaine. Cyril is increasingly focused on vineyard health, to deliver wines with pure varietal expression and a sense of place. They are among the most serious wines from the area, and while juicy and approachable young, have the capacity to age gracefully for many years.
2022 will be the last vintage for this wine as the parcel was sold after the harvest.
Other Reviews....
This is positively filigree for Pommard, an appellation associated with firmness and dry power. Delicate earthiness is deftly interwoven with the red-fruit character, only gaining the upper hand right at the finish.

A fresh if quite restrained, even timid, nose grudgingly displays notes of plum, dark currant and a touch of earth. There is again excellent vibrancy to the super-sleek and well-detailed middleweight flavors that are finer if less concentrated, all wrapped in a reasonably complex, persistent and mildly austere finale. Drink through 2030+.
