2022 Domaine Coquard Loison-Fleurot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Domaine Coquard Loison-Fleurot produce exceptional Burgundy, yet are still firmly under the radar for many collectors. Given they enjoy an enviable collection of six Grand Cru vineyards, and the expert winemaking skills shown by the talented Thomas Colladot, Coquard Loison-Fleurot won't remain hidden for long.
For many years the grapes from the property were sold to negociants, however as these contracts begun to expire in the early 2000's they started taking back the production, and brought on Thomas Colladot in 2010 to oversee winemaking duties. While not certified, organic practices are used in the vineyards, with all fruit hand harvested and whole cluster fermentation used where and as desired depending on the plot and vintage conditions. New oak varies between 30-50% for most wines, and élevage lasts between 15 and 18 months, before bottling is conducted in-house. The wines of Coquard Loison-Fleurot are characterised by their purity and transparency of their terroirs.
Other Reviews....
The 2022 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is raised in 50% new oak with 15% whole bunches. This feels a little muted on the nose compared to the other Grand Crus at the moment, despite coaxing from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry. Good body and weight. There’s slightly peppery red fruit with blood orange and hints of curry leaf towards the finish that has more gusto than the current aromatics. Be patient here - this Clos Vougeot has something up its sleeve. Drink 2029-2050.

Neal Martin - Vinous
A rich deep purple, super saturated, with a bouquet to match. A full and firm structure with Thomas Collardot’s abundant fruit flowing over the top. A darker fruit with a blackberry note, but not the mulberry which would imply over-ripeness. The 20% whole bunch vinification adds an additional freshness, a slight salinity which works very well. Drink from 2032-2040.

Here too there is enough wood to notice framing the markedly floral-suffused nose with its notes of lavender, rose petal, violet and acacia blossom that add breadth to the elegant and cool red berry scents. The super-sleek and moderately dense flavors retain fine delineation on the dusty, youthfully austere and persistent finale where a touch of wood slowly reemerges. Drink through 2034+.
