2022 Domaine de la Vougeraie Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles

Fleshy and supple with an amply fruited mid length finish.

Dark red core with black toned edges and a red to dark red hue. Nosing evokes aromas of sour to red cherries, hints of stalk, fresh herb, forest floor and spice notes. Fleshy dark cherry and strawberry fruits seamlessly integrate with subtle dried herb, forest floor, delicate cedar and spice elements. Supple mid palate feel with polished tannins and an amply fruited mid length finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Racked this morning. Quite a dense purple. Definitely the darker side of raspberry on the nose. A concentrated dark raspberry fruit with plenty of pepper notes behind, adding counterpoint to the ripe fruit which surges back at the finish. This adds to the argument that Evocelles is at least half way to being a 1er Cru. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Nov 2023.

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles, which has small berries due to millerandage, has a lilting bouquet of red and blue fruit, a touch of violet in the background, and more mineralité than the La Justice. The medium-bodied palate is cohesive and focused with fine tannins, well-judged acidity and a bright, sapid finish. This is a delightful Gevrey-Chambertin. Drink 2026-2040.
