2022 Domaine Sylvain Cathiard Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits
Sylvain Cathiard built a fearsome reputation through the 1990's and early 2000's for producing some of the greatest wines of Burgundy. His ability to marry fragrant and perfectly ripe grapes with expertly chosen new oak set the standard at the time. While the wines were more approachable than his peers, they also had the requisite components to age and evolve gloriously for many years. Now under the stewardship of his son Sebastien, the wines have gained even more acclaim and are equally as well built for an envious evolution in the cellar.
Other Reviews....
A more complex nose features notes of violet, anise and red and dark currant scents. The succulent yet nicely detailed flavors possess a subtle minerality that becomes more apparent on the youthfully austere and balanced finale that could use better depth. Drink through 2026+.

Allen Meadows - Burghound
Offering up aromas of cherries and smoky berries, the 2022 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits is medium-bodied, lively and layered, attaining an impressive 13.6% natural alcohol, something that would have been unthinkable in this appellation only a decade ago. Drink 2024-2030.

The 2022 Bourgogne Rouge Hautes Côtes de Nuits comes from fruit from towards Comblanchien. Dark berry fruit on the nose commingles with light truffle scents. The palate is medium-bodied and quite powerful, with a light spiciness. It has perhaps the most opulent finish of the three Hautes-Côtes. Fine. Drink 2025-2032.

Neal Martin - Vinous
This is the principle Hautes Côtes cuvée, grown in the commune of Villars, from several plots. Slightly denser in colour than the Bourgogne from the Côte. A slightly plumper raspberry fruit here, still a drier patch from the wood which will assimilate, and fair length. Medium succulent, the highest alcohol of the Hautes Côtes cuvées. Drink from 2025-2028.
