2022 Guffens-Heynen Macon-Pierreclos Premier Jus de Chavigne
Other Reviews....
The 2022 Mâcon-Pierreclos 1er Jus de Chavigne is a brilliant young wine in the making, unfurling in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, white flowers and crisp stone fruit, thrown into relief by subtly exotic top notes. Medium to full-bodied, racy and tensile, it's concentrated and incisive, concluding with a chalky, almost electric finish. Chavigne always over-performs in warm vintages, and 2022 is no exception.

The 2022 Mâcon-Pierreclos 1er Jus de Chavigne comes from free-run juices from the best plots except Juliette. This has a discrete bouquet with white peach, walnut and subtle smoky aromas that need a little coaxing from the glass. The palate is very well-balanced, with crisp acidity that counterbalances the richness. It's pure, with a hint of spice complementing orange pith and pear notes towards the finish. Beautifully crafted. Drink 2024-2040.

‘You need to pick Pierreclos at just the right moment,’ according to Guffens-Heynen's winemaker, Julien Desplantes. To judge from the evidence of this superb bottling, it has. The must is carefully pressed and only the first-press juice is used. It is fermented in cask without settling to produce a wine of bewitching complexity with aromas of ripe apricots, quince and exotic spice. Velvety in texture, with impressive density and an interminable finish, yet enough substance to bring everything into balance. This is a simply marvellous wine. Drink 2023 - 2040.
