2022 Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Shiraz
Georgia’s Paddock contains twelve hectares of Shiraz resulting in an average yield of about three tonnes per hectare. Planted on its own roots in 1975/76 on basaltic rock from the Cambrian period at an altitude of 320 meters. The dry-grown vines here have to rely on natural rainfall only, producing fruit with the immense concentration that the winery is known for.
A monumentally powerful Georgia’s Paddock.
Totally impenetrable, super saturated inky black colour with an equally deep black dark red hue. A touch restrained at first the nose slowly builds in the glass to deliver an intense aromatic profile of inky blackberry, liquorice and blackberry trailed by some vanillin cedar, scorched earth, fennel and blackpepper notes. Carrying enormous palate weight are rich voluptuous blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and black cherry fruits which are supported by a firm tannin structure and an underlying youthful freshness. Robust inky feel with spicy vanillin cedar, scorched earth and peppered fennel elements lending further personality. Magnificent power and volume finishing long, expansive and muscular.
Cellar 10-15 years.
Alc. 15.5%
Other Reviews....
Georgia's Paddock is back, no longer supplemented by fruit grown by friends following some challenging vintages. Sports slightly higher alcohol than usual (15.5%), but it's carried well, managed by firm structural tannins. A youngster, it deserves a thorough slosh before serving, time to release those captive aromas and flavours of briar, blackcurrant, plum, blueberry, savoury olive and spice. Full-bodied but lively, it delivers a powerful presence in the glass, seamless and firm, dark fruited and spicy, running deep and long to the finish. Drink by 2040.
