2022 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Valmur Chablis Grand Cru
Other Reviews....
This is also ripe but agreeably cool with its very fresh aromas of green fruit, just sliced citrus and oyster shell wisps. There is exceptionally good volume and richness to the more concentrated and markedly more powerful larger-bodied flavors that deliver excellent depth and persistence on the robust finale. This won't win any awards for refinement but then again, refinement isn't why one buys Valmur. Drink through 2030+.

The 2022 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru has a very aromatic bouquet with apple blossom, white peach, wet stone and light praline scents - complex. The palate is delineated and sapid on the entry, quite strict with quince and peach hints towards the sustained finish. Classy, if just missing the killer blow. Drink 2025-2037.

40% oak. A clear mid yellow. There is a saltiness to the bouquet which Benoît considers a hallmark. A big round ball of fruit on the palate, white rather than yellow, then back to the marine character to finish. A very solid wine suited to white meats more than fish. Fine persistence. Drink from 2029-2038.

Valmur is a colder valley, with the effect being that there is much more minerality evident. Focused and perfumed, drive and tension on the palate. Intriguing notes of orange zest add further interest. 40% of the blend is aged in barrel. Saline notes to finish; there is a lot going on.
