2022 Nicks Secret Martinborough Chardonnay
100% of the fruit comes from the estate vineyard planted to a mix of clones. The wine is fermented and then matured in French oak barrels with some lees stirring to add complexity for a period of 10 months.
Rich and beautifully shaped, this is quintessential Martinborough Chardonnay.
Brilliant pale straw coloured core with highlights of green around the outskirts and a watery hue. Attractively scented and quite expressive, the nose offers up white peach, dried honey and subtle cashew aromas followed by some biscuity nougat and spice notes. Rich and beautifully shaped in the mouth, fleshy white peach, ripe nectarine and dried honey flavours overlay a delicate cashew, biscuity nougat and spicy crème brulee back drop. Good underlying freshness finishing long, deeply flavoured and creamy textured. Outstanding value at just $20.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
Alc. 13%
Other Reviews…..
Complex and enticing, the bouquet shows ripe stone fruit, rockmelon, vanillin oak and lemon zest aromas with a hint of flinty overtone. It's concentrated and persistent in the mouth offering terrific richness with refinement and beautifully pitched acidity, finishing impressively long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2032.
