2022 Pascal Cotat Sancerre Les Monts Damnes
Pascal Cotat is one of the leading domaines of Sancerre, producing a traditional style of wines aged in oak. Officially formed in the 1990's following the split of the family holdings, the vineyards have been tended by them since the 1947. Located in the western portion of the Sancerre appellation, Chavignol has a unique type of soil called, in French, “terres blanches.” The region is essentially a chalk plateau, like that found in Chablis, with clay and limestone soils. These are wines that can age for decades effortlessly, and that marry a plush richness with a laser-like cut and energy.
Monts Damnés is one of Chavignol’s finest vineyards where the subsoil is pure chalk with thin clay and limestone topsoil. Average age of the Pascal Cotat plot is 30 plus years.
