2022 Paul Osicka Moormbool Shiraz
Dense pitch black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. A mix of liquorice, dark plum and black cherry aromas engulf the nostrils followed by some vanillin cedar, fennel and light pepper notes. Rich, powerful and concentrated the palate is flooded with cascading waves of dark plum, liquorice and black cherry fruits which seamlessly integrate into a spicy vanillin cedar, fennel, scorched earth and blackpepper back drop. Very polished yet structurally chewy tannins with a long refined finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.3%
Other Reviews…..
The top of the tree release from Osicka. A 2022 release. Resplendent in its tannin and Aussie bush characters, so identifiable of this producer and indeed unique in some respects to Heathcote – a distinct site that speaks loudly and confidently in these wines.
Bold scents, deep flavours, rippling with Italianate tannin, stretches long on crushed rock minerality, lots of tension and structure, a tour de force of fruit and well-judged winemaking edifice. It feels quality from hello – big whiffs of dark cherry, plum, aniseed, eucalyptus, pepper and paperbark bark with turned earth there too. The palate a similar feast for the senses, echoes of fleshy, ripe dark berries, cherries and plums, aniseed, minty alpine herb notes, dusty pepper and cardamom. It feels powerful but sits at medium weight, despite the chewy, puckering authority of succulent tannin. Seriously good. Drink 2024-2040.
