In 1979 Mike Peterkin produced Australia’s first Semillon Sauvignon Blanc. Working at Cullen’s at the time, the wine went on to win a trophy at the Perth Royal Show. He never claimed any originality for the idea, he simply borrowed it from the French. In 1980 he was so convinced of the blend’s potential in Margaret River he devoted a third of the Pierro plantings to the varieties.
The 2022 L.T.C. is made up of 53% Sauvignon Blanc, 42% Semillon and 5% Chardonnay. Twenty five percent of the blend was fermented and matured in new and one & two year-old French oak barrels for a period of 2-3 months with the balance fermented and matured in stainless steel.
Brilliant very pale straw almost water like coloured core with a distinct glimmer of green around the edges. Pronounced lime and green apple top notes meld into hints of passionfruit, subtle herbaceous grassy characters and minerals. Racy and intense, an explosion of lime, passionfruit and green apple fruit bursts across the palate. Crunchy acidity with subtle grassy characters, infusions of fresh herbs and flinty mineral elements ensuing. Zesty and energetic it finishes very long and super scrumptious.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
Alc. 13.5%

Other Reviews....
The intensity and power of the 2022 vintage is clearly on display with this outstanding example of this distinctive and consistently outstanding blended white wine. It’s sauvignon blanc and semillon in roughly equal parts and with the light addition of chardonnay – only 5% but really important to add texture and palate richness to the perfumed and linear SBS combination. Tingling acidity completes the wine. A cracker. Drink: 2022-2034
