2022 Pierro Nunc Tempus Est Chenin
The Pierro Margaret River Vineyard is located in the renowned Willyabrup area, considered one of the finest wine-growing terrains in the world. Nestled in Western Australia’s pristine southwest between Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste, the region boasts unspoiled landscapes, fresh air, clean seas, and fertile soils. Surrounded by open water on three sides, it enjoys pure, cool sea breezes year-round, with mild, wet winters and sunlit summers providing ideal conditions for viticulture. Combined with soils perfectly suited to classic varietals, this exceptional terroir forms the foundation of Pierro's vineyards.
In 1980, Dr. Michael Peterkin planted a 1.5-acre plot of Chenin Blanc, which has matured into old vines yielding small amounts of exceptional fruit. Inspired each year to create a special wine, he finally acted with "Nunc Tempus Est"—Now is the time. The fruit was handpicked early in the morning, gently pressed to extract the finest juice, and fermented cool in tanks. It rested and matured over winter before being bottled in spring, capturing the freshness of its harvest.
Other Reviews....
When I’m feeling a bit depressed about the state of the world, there’s nothing quite like opening a bottle of Chenin Blanc to cheer me up.
Green apple, apricot, green pear, lemon myrtle and honey, a coverlet of spicy oak. It’s juicy, lots of flavour here, but tight too, and the texture is excellent offering some chalky grip and glossy feel, and it sports a cinch of dried herb and quinine bitterness on a long finish. It’s powerful Chenin, yet it’s balanced and controlled. Gee, this is terrific wine. Drink 2024 - 2030+
