2022 Sanguine Estate Progeny Shiraz
Over the last decade or so Sanguine Estate have steadily built a reputation as one of Heathcote’s top producers making rich, intensely flavoured wines that have brought a loyal following. Their entry level Shiraz ‘Progeny’ is consistently one of the districts best buys. Ben Riggs continues to consult the Hunter family in their endeavours. Maturation takes place in predominately French oak barriques, approximately 15% new, for a period of 12 months.
A powerful Heathcote Shiraz that holds rich, concentrated fruit within a sturdy framework.
Impenetrable inky black heart with a very deep black dark red hue. Filling the nostrils are pronounced dark plum, liquorice and blackberry aromas followed by some lightly toasted vanillin cedar and peppered earth notes. Lush dark plum, liquorice and blackberry fruits engulf the rich, concentrated palate. Spicy vanillin cedar, scorched earth and blackpepper elements linger through the back half. Opulent yet still showing a touch of youthful inkiness it boasts outstanding power and a sturdy yet nicely integrated tannin framework. Concludes long, deeply fruited and peppery.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Other Reviews......
A stunning, accomplished wine for the price. Consistently hits above its station. Elegant and assured, it highlights the beauty of Heathcote shiraz as opposed to brute power. Meshes black cherry, plum, blackberry with sage, anise, violet and acacia. The aromatics are so integral to the wine, so appealing and downright fine. A supple palate gives them space to star. Drink by 2028.
