2022 Torbreck The Struie Shiraz
A blend of Barossa Valley (79%) and Eden Valley (21%) fruit, the Barossa Valley contributes plushness and concentration whilst the Eden Valley component brings elegance and structure to the blend. The average age of vines is 50 years old and maturation takes place in a mixture of new (25%) and seasoned French oak for a period of 18 months.
An extraordinarily rich and dense Struie that possesses explosive power.
Spectacular inky black dark purple colour that’s totally impenetrable with a near equally deep dark purple black hue. Potent in its intensity, the nose has lavish dark plum, blackberry, liquorice and blueberry scents wafting through it. Smoky vanillin cedar, dark chocolate, fennel and peppered earth notes ensue. Extraordinarily rich and dense, the palate boasts a liqueur like concentration and texture. Opulent dark plum, liquorice, blackberry and black cherry fruits are delivered with explosive power over a back drop of fennel, spicy vanillin cedar, scorched earth, mocha and pepper characters. A robust tannin structure imparts a ripe chewy feel onto the back half with an underlying blueberry like freshness counterpointing the wines otherwise voluptuous and exceptionally long conclusion.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.

The 2022 The Struie is composed of 79% Barossa Valley and 21% Eden Valley fruit. It is impenetrably dense in the glass and aromatic and rich in the mouth. It's totally concentrated with impressive flavor penetration on the palate. This is an epic wine, as usual, and at $55 AUD, it represents sensational premium Barossa Shiraz drinking. It's all velvet and volume, with detail and varietal definition. It could only come from one place on the planet, as it speaks as much to its red dirt origins as it does to the variety, Shiraz. Drink 2024-2037.

Thoroughly charming and a smart buy, seamlessly and seductively combining Eden Valley top notes of black pepper and florals with the savoury, earthy cep powder and chocolate loam complexity of the Western Ranges. Lovely complexity and layering, with joyous, juicy blackberry, bilberry and blueberry fruit, cool mineral acidity, a shower of gunpowder tannins, then cut finger notes and charcuterie oak undertones to the finish. Drink 2024-2034.
