2022 Woodlands Wilyabrup Valley Chardonnay

Brilliant pale straw colour with a subtle tinge of green around the edges and a watery hue. Lifted pear, nectarine and subtle grapefruit aromas are trailed by hints of bees wax, lemon butter and spice. Rich with a well fleshed, almost creamy like textural feel, the mid weighted palate features white peach, nectarine and pear fruit over a back drop of delicate dried honey, biscuity nougat and spice. Good freshness with a long refined conclusion.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

What a lovely surprise to find this all light and bright, not too much as it has depth and flavour, too. Certainly, there’s grapefruit and lemon but it’s the nougat and honeycomb that entices, the oak imparting sweetness and woodsy spices before a long thread of acidity wraps around and holds everything in place. Drink by 2031.
