Savoury and poised, with blackberry, olive and dark chocolate over a fresh, age-worthy frame.

Yeringberg is a historic Yarra Valley estate, first established in 1863 and now under the stewardship of the fifth generation of the de Pury family. Once one of the region’s most celebrated vineyards, production ceased in 1921 before being revived by Guill and Katherine de Pury in 1969. Today, winemaker Sandra de Pury leads the winery, working alongside her brother David who manages the vineyard. With some of the oldest vines in the Yarra Valley, Yeringberg continues to produce elegant, age-worthy wines that reflect both heritage and thoughtful custodianship.
Produced only in the finest vintages, the 2022 Yeringberg Cabernet Sauvignon is a single-varietal expression from 1999 plantings, offering structure and intensity with classic refinement. Handpicked and fermented in small open-top tanks, the wine spent 16 days on skins and was matured for 21 months in French oak (30% new). Deep aromas of blackberry, black olive and dark chocolate are layered with iodine and tobacco. The palate is savoury and powerful, yet fresh and finely poised, showing the vintage’s hallmark elegance and age-worthy structure.

Other Reviews....
Just the third straight cabernet made, and from grapes planted in '99. A deepish bright crimson purple. A touch more closed than the Yeringberg blend, but still with a lovely core of dark fruits, together with cedar, violets and a hint of iodine on the perfumed and captivating bouquet. The medium-bodied and firmly structured palate is beautifully balanced but with those, firm, fine-grained tannins, this will require some patience to fulfil its potential. Drink 2024 - 2035.

Well, I probably should have tasted this alongside the Yeringberg Yeringberg from the same vintage, though timing/chaos prevented that. I reckon this is the better wine for me, because it has a bit less oak, and more perfume and finesse. I could be wrong. It’s from 1999 plantings.
Intense small berried black and red fruits, quite some violet perfume, pencils and tobacco, perhaps a little aniseed. It’s medium-bodied, quite ferrous and pencilly, the old liquid ‘mineral’ feel that great Cabernet often sports, compact and fine-grained tannin grip, freshness and excellent length, some redcurrant peeking through in the aftertaste along with some more savoury/earthy character. Beautiful wine. So good. Drink 2025 - 2038+.
