2022 Yeringberg Chardonnay
Finely balanced and poised, with nectarine, flint and white peach over a rich, layered palate.
Yeringberg is a historic Yarra Valley estate, first established in 1863 and now under the stewardship of the fifth generation of the de Pury family. Once one of the region’s most celebrated vineyards, production ceased in 1921 before being revived by Guill and Katherine de Pury in 1969. Today, winemaker Sandra de Pury leads the winery, working alongside her brother David who manages the vineyard. With some of the oldest vines in the Yarra Valley, Yeringberg continues to produce elegant, age-worthy wines that reflect both heritage and thoughtful custodianship.
Yeringberg’s Chardonnay comes from low-yielding, mature vines planted in 1974 and 1981, producing a wine of precision and power. Handpicked fruit was pressed and fermented in French oak (25% new), with partial malolactic fermentation and extended lees contact to build texture and complexity. The result is a finely balanced Chardonnay with restrained aromas of nectarine, citrus blossom and flint, opening into layers of white peach, honey and roasted nuts. The palate is poised and layered, offering both richness and drive in equal measure.

A combination of natural and inoculated ferments, then racked to 25% new oak with 25% mlf. A bright green gold. Attractive scents of ripe stone fruits, lemon confiture, honey and hazelnuts that are echoed on the flavourful, silky, gently viscous and long palate. At the more hedonistic end of the Yarra chardonnay spectrum and a delicious wine to drink now and over the next three to five years. Drink 2024 - 2028.

Complex aromas of lemon peel, phosphorous, honeysuckle and orange blossoms. The palate is medium-bodied with a refined texture and bright acidity, giving notes of grapefruit, beeswax, lanolin and river stones. Very finely constructed, with a slight phenolic edge adding to the tactile finish. Excellent. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
