2022 Yeringberg Viognier
Aromatic and textural, with apricot, honey, and peach blossom lifted by bright freshness and length.
Yeringberg is a historic Yarra Valley estate, first established in 1863 and now under the stewardship of the fifth generation of the de Pury family. Once one of the region’s most celebrated vineyards, production ceased in 1921 before being revived by Guill and Katherine de Pury in 1969. Today, winemaker Sandra de Pury leads the winery, working alongside her brother David who manages the vineyard. With some of the oldest vines in the Yarra Valley, Yeringberg continues to produce elegant, age-worthy wines that reflect both heritage and thoughtful custodianship.
Yeringberg’s 2022 Viognier captures the variety’s trademark exoticism and perfume with poise and finesse. A low-yielding vintage resulted in a small but high-quality crop, all picked on a single day. The fruit was gently whole-bunch pressed and wild fermented in old barrels, then aged on lees with occasional stirring for 10 months. The result is a richly aromatic wine, offering layers of apricot, peach blossom, burnt honey, white tea, and ginger. The palate is textural and complex—unctuous yet bright—delivering generous flavour with freshness and length.

Barrel fermented and matured for 10 months in large-format oak. A bright green gold. A hedonistic bouquet of ripe nectarines and apricots together with glacé ginger and honey. Textured but not overdone on the palate, which is gently saline and very nicely balanced. It's delicious now, but this has enough of everything to still be looking good three to four years from now too. A truly lovely example. Drink 2024 - 2028.

Complex and perfumed aromas of grilled pineapple, apricots and orange blossoms. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with a creamy texture and a phenolic grip, giving notes of lemon curd tart, Asian pears, quince and rosewater. Classically northern Rhone in style, with great concentration and depth. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
