2023 Domaine Christian Salmon Sancerre
For six generations, the Salmon family have been growing grapes on the limestone rich soils of the Sancerre region, with 15 hectares in the famous Coteaux Buétons. In Pouilly-sur-Loire, the family has the Clos des Criots vineyard located in the centre of the village, on marl and limestone soils rich in oyster fossils (Kimmeridgian). Today Domaine Christian Salmon is led by sixth generation Armand Salmon and his wife Marie. The wines are made in stainless steel, with no oak treatment, in a classic, fresh, zesty style reliant on indigenous yeast ferments and extended time on lees.
Brilliant very pale straw colour with a faint greenish tinge around the outskirts and a watery hue. Lime and green apple aromas are intermeshed with subtle passionfruit, herbaceous gooseberry and stony mineral notes. Slippery in its feel and nicely shaped across the palate, concentrated lime, passionfruit and green apple fruits overlay subtle herbaceous elements, wet stone and flinty characters. Crisp acidity finishing long, dry and refreshing.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
