2023 Hoddles Creek Estate Chardonnay

A delightful Yarra Valley Chardonnay that’s long, energetic and high on flavour.

Brilliant pale straw colour with a distinctive greenish tinge to the outskirts and a watery hue. Elevated white peach, nectarine and dried honey aromas sail through the nostrils with some cashew, biscuity nougat and spice notes lending further personality. Possessing ample weight, concentration and a gently creamed feel, the palate is laden with fleshy white peach, nectarine and citrusy dried honey like flavours. Brisk underlying acidity lends freshness and vibrancy to the mouth feel. Biscuity nougat and delicate spicy cashew elements also chime in. Concludes long, energetic and highly flavoursome.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Gee, this is an intense iteration of HCE Chardonnay! Very concentrated. Melon, lime, spice and aniseed, almond too. The texture is very flinty and firm, the acidity is mouth-watering and offers plenty of zip, and there’s some nutty umami flavours in the mix too. Length is excellent. Preserved lemon and green olive in the aftertaste. It’s perhaps a little less ‘user-friendly’ as a young wine than is usual, but wow, it’s quite something. Drink 2024-2034+
