2023 Lethbridge Pinot Gris
Sourced from three vineyards, two of which are in Henty and the other in Geelong with fruit picked over a number of passes to maximise flavour and texture. Ferments take place in small batches in new wood, with some portions seeing up to 48 hours of skin contact. The wine then matures in foudre on fine lees for a few months before bottling.
Brilliant pale straw to straw colour with a watery hue. Rising out of the glass are lifted scents of pear, Jonathan apple skin and rosewater which are complimented by hints of musk and ginger. Luscious pear and ripe apple fruits are interwoven with musk and ginger. Slippery mid palate feel finishing dry and spicy with fresh acidity. Long texturally pleasing conclusion.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.
Alc. 12.5%
Other Reviews….
Planted on limestone in the mid-1990s. Fermented in stainless and wood with some components receiving up to eight hours' skin contact. Matured in foudre. Enticing with aromas of fully ripened yellow apples together with ginger and spice. Textured and slippery with just enough grip at the finish to give the wine tension and length. Drink by 2027.
