2023 Mac Forbes Yarra Junction Chardonnay
Light, tense, energetic Chardonnay.
Brilliant pale straw colour with subtle flecks of green to the edges and a watery hue. Delicate citrus and green apple aromas are trailed by some lime juice, faint orange blossom and stony mineral notes. The light, energetic palate features frisky lime juice and green apple fruits which have a back bone of crisp acidity. Some subtle stony mineral elements are also evident. Tense racy feel with a very focused finish.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 11%
Other Reviews…..
From a single site. A few hours of skin contact before fermentation and maturation in seasoned barriques. A brilliant green gold. Restrained with aromas of just-ripened orchard fruits, yellow plum, orange blossom and grilled hazelnuts. Really persistent, balanced, tensile and long. A lovely wine destined to blossom over the next, at least, seven to 10 years. Drink by 2030.

The boundaries are being pushed – it’s 11% alcohol – but there’s good flavour here, not to mention style, not to mention an extra kick of flavour through the finish. Indeed there’s more than a little x-factor to this wine. Lactose, grapefruit, pear, green apple and fennel flavours come with a light coating of custard powder and woodsmoke. It all sails so beautifully along. There’s a floral element here too; if ever a wine benefited from being decanted, it’s this one. Every time I returned to my glass it had something else to say.
