2023 MMAD Vineyard Chenin Blanc
Located in Blewitt Springs, the MMAD Vineyard features Grenache planted in 1939, along with Shiraz and Chenin Blanc, the oldest of which were planted in 1941 and 1964. The vineyard has fine Maslin sands and benefits from cooling sea breezes from the southwest. Beneath the sand is a layer of ironstone pebbles, which, combined with the sand and winds, adds both perfume and structure to the wines. The hand-picked fruit is crushed and fermented in concrete (50%) and whole bunch pressed and fermented in large old oak (50%).
Alc. 12.5%
Other Reviews....
Intensity of flavour is one of this wine’s key attributes but texture and length are the thing. Pear, apple, mace and hay characters get a good chatter of flavour going, (white) pepper notes sprayed over the finish. There’s a chalky, earthy, smoky aspect to the aftertaste and a general feeling of completeness. It’s a savoury white, turned out beautifully. Drink 2024 - 2030.

Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front
Following the heights of the 2022 vintage the 2023 is leading the charge once again for a modern linear style of Chenin Blanc. This 2023 throwing out lifted perfume of Calla lily, fresh linen and yellow grapefruit pith. There is hulled almonds and raw cashew cream, kefir acidity and a coconut water freshness. Wet stone, crystal melon and white rind cheese. It has an exfoliating, almost gritty sensation that adds further dimension and texture. A long extended flavour palate hits the nail on the head for the moreish, drinkable quality its gaining a reputation for. Drink now with steamed clams and ginger sauce. Drink 2024 - 2025.
