2023 Munda Wurundjeri Country Pinot Noir
Matured in French oak barrels (20% new) for 10 months. Deep dark red core with black shaded edges and a red hue. Aromas of ripe dark cherry, strawberry and anise stream from the glass followed by some forest floor and spicy cedar notes. Rich, concentrated and juicy the palate is flooded with dark cherry and strawberry fruits which overlay a back drop of anise, earth and spicy cedar. Showing ample power and a fleshy texture, it has fine grained tannins and a long, spicy conclusion.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 13%
Other Reviews…..
The first Yarra Valley Pinot from Munda comes from a mix of red-brown clay, deep red volcanic soils, and granite. It is a wine with an alluring and well-composed nose: crunchy cranberries, polished red cherries, wild violets and some lovely vanilla, musk stick, a touch of cardamom, and cedar. The palate is juicy and, once again, well composed on its fruit and oak profile. More apparent is that the blood orange and earthy character, with elegant, granular tannins, giving a texture that reminds me of a chestnut. It is a well-made, balanced wine that is still in its prime. Drink 2024-2030.
