2023 Muto Picpoul Blanc
Muto Wine is operated by the Smit family, based in Tallarook, Victoria. They utilise climate-appropriate, alternative varieties to produce wines that are characterised by their integrity, thoughtful production, and pure drinkability.
Destemmed fruit is split between fermenting on skins in open fermenters and pressed juice fermenting in tank. The skin-macerated ferments are punched down by hand daily and pressed after 7 days before being married into tank for 7 months of maturation on lees.
Bright pale straw to straw colour with a watery hue. Nosing offers up a combination of pear, red apple skin, faint lime and quince scents. Lively pear skin, mandarin and dried apple flavours sit over a quincy back drop. Slippery mid palate feel finishing very dry with tangy acidity and elegant aftertaste that shows a hint of salted almond character.
Drink over the next year.

Other Reviews....
It's a steal at the price, but more importantly, it's a fabulous white wine to drink. It's fruity, it has attitude, it's textural through the finish and everything is well sustained. It makes the hard look easy. It's a lovely wine, complex and with the weight to stand up to all manner of foods. Drink by 2026.
