2023 Parish Vineyard Riesling
Yalumba’s Robert Hill Smith and Louisa Rose of Pewsey Vale & Heggies fame are intrinsically linked with Eden Valley Riesling. They had also long admired the potential of Tasmanian Riesling, so when the opportunity came up to work with a unique site of mature Riesling vines they jumped at it. Located in the Coal River valley, this small block of Riesling is hidden in the midst of larger plantings of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines. Brilliant water like core with a greenish tinge around the outskirts. Intense lime and citrus aromas jump out of the glass with some orange rind, chalky talc, green apple and steely mineral notes also chiming in. The mouth watering palate is awash with a concentrate of lime and citrus fruits that provide plenty of textural volume. Crunchy green apple, orange rind, chalky talc and wet steel characters lie underneath. Crisp slatey acidity finishing dry, long and scrumptious. Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 12%
Other Reviews....
Coal River Valley. Something of a Germanic character to this wine, in both texture and flavour profile, plus that kiss of sweetness it carries. Stonefruit, green mango, lavender, rock salt and cheese sticks. To taste, more to grapefruit and fresh apricot, fine powdery texture, with a flavoursome and gently savoury finish of excellent length. Interesting. Very good. Drink 2024 – 2033.
