2023 Pikes Traditionale Riesling
Pikes have long produced one of Clare Valley’s benchmark Rieslings, 2023 marking the 39th release, one which was a cooler vintage with the long ripening period delivering fruit with high natural acidity and concentrated flavours. Fruit is sourced predominately from the Estate’s Polish Hill River vineyard with the balance coming from growers located in the Watervale, Sevenhill, Leasingham and Mintaro districts. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel on lees for 3 months.
Brilliant water like core with a greenish tinged outskirts. Engulfing the nostrils are intense lime, citrus and orange rind scents followed by some talc and chalky mineral notes. Bursting across the mouth watering palate is a concentrate of lemon and lime fruit. Notions of orange rind, green apple, chalky talc and steely mineral characteristics linger across the back half. Super scrumptious and powerful it has a chalky like texture and crunchy acidity. Finishes long and zippy.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
