2023 Pizzini Nonna Gisella Sangiovese
Crafted using a mix of cold maceration for freshness and hot fermentation for depth, it is aged in a blend of large oak barrels, barriques (10% new oak), and stainless steel tanks.
Medium dense dark red heart with black toned edges and a red to dark red hue. Red currant and red cherry aromas combine with Mediterranean herb, subtle earth, light tobacco and spice notes. Light to mid weight the savoury palate features spicy red currant and red cherry fruits over a back drop of earth and tobacco. Slightly dryish fine grained tannins and bright acidity with a spicy, nicely defined finish.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews....
There’s character here. It’s a dry, smoky, meaty style of sangiovese with red cherry and cranberry flavours as the mainstay and plenty of fragrant herb notes flying about. It needs food but in that context it will sing. The grip of the finish won’t hurt its food friendliness; nor will the wine’s general smoky-spicy persona. It’s well priced, and a good drink. Drink 2024 - 2028.
