2023 The Willows Vineyard G Seven Mataro
Rich and fleshy with succulent blue to dark fruits.
From a single block planted in 1970 with 25% whole bunch inclusion and maturation in seasoned French oak for a period of 8 months.
Midnight black core with a dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced dark plum, liquorice and blueberry scents flood the nostrils with some dried herb, subtle smoked meat and spicy earth notes also chiming in. Rich and fleshy, the mid weighted palate sports juicy dark plum, blueberry and liquorice fruits. Concentrated yet possessing an underlying freshness, dried herb, subtle scorched earth and spice elements sit in the background. Polished yet sturdily constructed tannins with a long, succulent blue to dark fruited finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14%
Other Reviews…..
Sourced from a single block of Light Pass mataro. Pure, ripe plum, blueberry and red forest-berry fruits held in the dust of exotic spice, liminal mataro garrigue and notes of roasting meats. Floral tones abound too … violets, frangipani and something vaguely musky that I can't put my finger on. Impressive fruit purity and ripeness on the palate, packed with wild spice and dried citrus tones, tannins like little puffy clouds and a finish that has a distinct meaty facet. Me gusta! Drink by 2035.
