2023 West Cape Howe Old School Chardonnay

The Old School Chardonnay is sourced from specific vineyard blocks in Mount Barker with barrel fermentation and maturation taking place in French oak of which 20% is new for a period of 8 months. Two of those months it spends on lees with fortnightly stirring and goes through full malolactic fermentation to produce a textured, full flavoured style Chardonnay.

Brilliant pale straw to straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Intense ripe peach and apricot aromas fill the nostrils with hints of honeycomb, crème brulee and citrusy nougat also evident. Rich, mouth filling and creamy textured the palate is greeted with concentrated ripe peach, honeycomb and apricot flavours which meld into a crème brulee, citrusy nougat and subtle butterscotch back drop. Nicely balanced acidity lends a lick of freshness to the long enveloping finish.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
