Review Summary: Elegant, focused and fresh with a frisky mid length finish.

The Detailed review: Brilliant pale straw colour with a watery hue. White peach and nectarine aromas mix with hints of cashew, dried honey, citrus and subtle flint. Very focused, fresh and elegant in it’s feel, nectarine, citrus and green apple fruits are featured over a faint biscuity oak and gun flint infused back drop. Frisky acidity with a refined mid length finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 12.5%

Other Reviews…..
It’s nervy, energising and still finding its groove. It pulses, with vibrant acidity taking the lead over everything, although there’s still lemon and grapefruit flavours, spicy oak and superfine gossamer-like nutty lees. In another year, this will be more compelling. Drink by 2033.

Jane Faulkner – James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion

The 2023 Chardonnay hails from a mild to cool (and dry) season in Margaret River, one that, by all accounts, will be a superb vintage for Chardonnay. On the nose here, the wine leads with lemon butter and white peach, nashi pear and green apple, with brine, cashew nuts and spring flowers. The acidity in the mouth is typically intense in young Xanadu Chardonnay—part of the legacy of the house style that eschews malolactic fermentation—and so it presents as I would expect it to, in a season already imbued with zesty natural acids. There is plenty of race and pace in this wine, but there is some creaminess, too. It will be better in a few years, I believe, although much of this cuvée will be purchased and consumed early. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2026-2035.

Erin Larkin – Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

The nose is very focused and mineral-driven, with aromas of lemon peel, gun smoke, white peaches and sea spray. The palate is medium-bodied with focused acidity and a generous texture, giving notes of grapefruit pith, salt brine and green papayas. A very minerally and steely structure that will soften nicely in the years to come. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
