2024 Brokenwood Pinot Noir
Brokenwood has been producing Pinot Noir from the Indigo Vineyard since 2002, utilizing three clones (114, 115, and MV6) planted on diverse soil types to create both varietal and single-vineyard wines with bright fruit character. The 2024 vintage was challenging, with a late-season frost in October significantly reducing yields, particularly for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, leading to uneven fruit maturation and requiring careful picking. Despite the low yields, the fruit was in good condition, and harvest occurred under clear skies. The must underwent a cold soak with 30% whole bunches, followed by fermentation without post-ferment maceration. The wine matured in mostly used French oak barriques and puncheons for nine months before bottling.
