Coming Soon - 2024 Mayer Dr Pinot Noir
German born Timo Mayer, along with partner Rhonda Ferguson established Mayer in 1999, on the slopes of Mt Toolebewong, between Healesville & Woori Yallock. They produce a small range of hand crafted, single vineyard wines, believing that wines are made in the vineyard and not the winery. All wines are unfined and unfiltered to show the true expression of the vineyard. Vines are often close-planted, winemaking frequently utilises a generous use of whole bunch but most impressive is Timo's cheerful, amusing nature.
Described as giving it the "full beans", this is the 100% whole bunch version of Timo's trademark Pinot Noir. A wild ride on the Timo train, the Dr Pinot has all the sweet and sour, stalky and spice notes that had everyone swooning when his wines first hit the market.

Other Reviews....
Estate grown, 100% whole bunches, matured in seasoned hogsheads. A bright, light garnet. A slightly riper version of this always perfumed and seductive wine. Lifted aromas of wild strawberry, rose bush bramble and green peppercorn spice precede the gently sinewy, savoury and very long palate. My advice: drink the Mayer Pinot now and over the next five years and then get stuck into this Dr Mayer Pinot. Drink 2025-2035.

The Dr is in town doing house calls. Or some such. All the bunches.
It’s ‘whoa!’ in the green herb, white pepper and mezcal characters! Strap in. Lighter weight, a sluice of red cherry, rose hip cherry, all of this tightly wound with those green herb and peppery notes, skinny in its jive and cinched with ultra fine, silty tannin lending a long, drying pucker post sips. Fragrant, frisky, needs some time to see it elevate, but even now has a slinky swagger that should drag pinotphiles in. Sleek, elegant, personality plus. Drink 2026 - 2036.
