2024 RieslingFreak No. 4 Eden Valley Riesling
Since it’s establishment in 2009, winemaker John Hughes has in a very short period of time established RieslingFreak as one of the country's preeminent producers of the variety. Wine critic Mike Bennie describing it as ‘the definitive Riesling project in Australia.’
Brilliant water like core with a subtle tinge of green around the edges. Intense aromatics of lime, citrus and orange rind jump out of the glass intermingling with some distinct talc and chalky mineral notes along the way. Zippy lemon and lime flavours race across the palate followed by some Granny Smith apple, orange rind, wet steel and flinty mineral elements. Taut focused feel with crisp laser like acidity and a long zesty finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 11.5%
Other Reviews….
Sourced from Rieslingfreak growers in the Eden Valley, predominately the High Eden; John recalls there were lots of smaller bunches in the '24 season. Tight and high-toned, as all Eden Valley riesling should be, with Bickford's lime cordial and Tahitian limes at its base. Hints of orange blossom, crushed quartz, lemongrass and stone with a light, balanced sheen of phenolics and a febrile sense of urgency as it careens across the palate, finishing fine and long. Drink by 2038.
